There are many different mutations of Green cheek conures, sometimes it can be hard identifying which is which. Recently I've been seeing a lot of incorrect information or people selling and claiming there something there not. I'm hoping this page will clear some things up and help people understand what is what.

Green cheek conure Genetics

Sf = Single factor

Df = Double factor

Single factor just means they have 1 dominant gene

Double factor means they have 2 dominant genes

Key points

  • Sex linked

  • Recessive

  • Dominant

Breakdown

Sex linked =

  • Opaline -(yellowsided)

  • Cinnamon

  • Pineapple

Females can only be visual which means they cannot be split opaline or cinnamon

Males can be either visual or split to the mutation (opaline or cinnamon)

  • When speaking of pineapple splits in genetic terms they are referred to as double  split's because the pineapple mutation is just a combination of opaline and cinnamon.

Recessive =

  • Turquoise

Both parents need to have the recessive gene to get visuals, so parents need to be split turquoise or visual turquoise. Which means in this case both females and males can be split.
